Last year, say the organisers, 40 women came together with just two weeks’ planning. “There is great power in having 40 women making challah together,” said one of the organisers this week.

So, this year, Johannesburg’s women have decided to go three times bigger and plan to have three groups of 40 women each – all doing it together.

After the “overwhelming response” last year, “we were in awe of the generosity of so many as they also performed the mitzvah of giving tzedakah and we raised a substantial amount of money which was given to some of the very worthy charities in Johannesburg,” they say.

Girls, moms and bobbas, are all welcome to join in again this year.

It is all happening next Thursday, August 28, at the Sandton Convention Centre, where women of Johannesburg, young and old will be gathering to once again. Who knows, maybe if enough people turn up they’ll end up wishing they’d invited a Guinness Records auditor?

“Please come and join us for an amazing evening and lets’
storm the gates of heaven, for us all,” say the organisers.

‘there will most probably be 3 or 4 of us.

will there be enough for all the ladies that arrive as I keep hearing ladies say they want to join you but are a bit worried that there will not be space for them as you are not requesting rsvp’s’
