Great Park’s bonfire warms many hearts
RABBI DOVID HAZDAN
With the involvement of Lisa Zimmerman, the event was given an added dimension of professionalism, attention to detail and meticulous organisation. In spite of the increased attendance, queues were diminished through on-line ticket sales.
This year over 1 100 blankets were donated through Shmooza – “born” 11 years ago – and will be distributed to the needy through (outreach organisation) Afrika Tikkun before the cold of winter settles in.
Chief Rabbi Warren Goldstein began the proceedings with an encouraging message of unity. The children were treated to the excitement and joy of a Shooby Doob Shloimy concert with Mark Samowitz as well as a vast choice of children rides.
The crowds sat on the lawns between the numerous bonfires and enjoyed the music by Nefesh as well as a surprise appearance by Danny K.
The food was braaied by Lenny Meyerowitz and his “Master Chefs” of the Great Park Shul.
For the first time, a special private section was set up for the young adults which filled up in the later evening and continued until after 01:30. Sitting around the bonfire with guitars and drums accompanied by soul singing, the memorable night ended.
Shmooza once again put the “unity” into “community”.
