Another reason to be proud of being a Jew
BEVERLEY PRICE
Beverley Price of Johannesburg writes:
How fortunate that we Jews have inculcated in our universal identity, a 2 000-year tradition of robust verbal engagement with each other, Talmudic and communal.
To be able to speak up, be audible and visible and committed to creative and functional solutions, without martyrdom or victimisation, is a privilege and benefit of Jewish culture, not to be diminished as logical and obvious.
It is testimony to our internal democracy, sensitivity and civility as a people.
Perhaps too, a cultural projection and reason that “the nations” engage Jews as the perfect adversary. We listen and we do respond.
I am grateful and proud to be a Jew for this among many reasons.
