Rabbinate’s absence from brilliant Limmud poses questions
Herbert Rajak, Johannesburg
I’m only sorry that I missed some of the lectures due to their timetable clash with others that I attended.
The standard of lectures, the quality of local and international presenters, the number of young people and families attending and participating, all made me feel proud to know that we have an organisation like Limmud in our community to organise this annual conference.
I couldn’t but notice that our Johannesburg rabbonim were once again missing from the event. I can’t understand why the rabbinate in this day and age of anti-Semitism and anti-Judaism can allow this to happen to our community.
I would appreciate a statement from the rabbinate clarifying the reason why it is boycotting Limmud.
We should stand together rather than separate our communities.
I hope they will attend Limmud in 2020.

‘The Chief Rabbi has made his "point" regarding Limmud attendance
As a regular" Limmudnik" he for sure misses the point
Limmud offers the Jewish Community an amazing opportunity to learn and grow and stick together as a community.
Due to so many of our children emigrating our community is becoming smaller–why continue to create a ‘divide"?
The Chief Rabbi of the UK can attend Limmud–that says enough’
