Survivor shares story of hiding his identity that saved his life
OWN CORRESPONDENT
Perel told his unique story to Grade 11 and Grade 12 pupils at King David High School Victory Park on 17 February. He survived by pretending that he was a German. He was taken in by the German army to be a translator, changing his name to Josef. After the war, he immigrated to Israel, where he now lives.
For 40 years, he never told his story, but is now sharing it with communities and schools.
His story has also come to life in the film, Europa Europa, and his autobiography by the same name.
