Yusuf Cassim, DA Youth chairman (pictured above) says that the DA’s student organisation won 10 out of 17 seats on the Students Representative Council and also occupies four out of eight seats on the executive. This was despite the BDS-affiliated ALUTA pulling out all the stops to win a majority in the elections to institutionalise the boycott that had passed recently against Israel.

Speaking to POLITICSWEB last week, Cassim said: “We are happy to announce that DASO occupies four of the eight seats on the executive. We occupy the president, vice-president internal, treasurer and undergraduate academic chairman positions on the executive. Under the leadership of our president-elect, Khanyisa Baz Pinini, DASO will put UCT students first, as it has done in the past.”

Cassim said DASO appreciated the faith and trust that UCT students had placed in their leadership. He promised to do everything in their power to address and deal with all student challenges on campus. “We are excited about the journey ahead and have full confidence in the elected SRC leadership”, said Cassim. “We have no doubt that a DASO- led SRC will make a difference in every student’s life on campus in the next year.”
