Alleged ‘Terror Twins’ arrest lawful, Magistrate

The matter was postponed to 19 August for a bail application, however under the Terrorism Act they do not qualify for automatic bail and the onus is on them to show why they should be granted bail.

Given that the State is claiming that they were at an advanced state of planning to blow up a US and various Jewish installations in Johannesburg, and that they were trying to buy detonators, the chances of them being granted bail are considered to be slim.

The allegations are of what are known as Schedule 6 offences and the applicants need to prove special and extraordinary circumstances exist in order to obtain bail for themselves.

“In the light of evidence obtained by the Hawks, there will be almost no chance of bail being allowed,” a legal pundit told SAJR today.
