South African Ambassador to Israel, Sisa Ngombane, was bullied for his comments by supporters of returning SA activist Lee-Ann Naidoo at a press conference on the weekend. While the SA Jewish Board of Deputies has slammed the anti-Israel behaviour, on Wednesday pro-Palestinian groups were calling on President Zuma to recall Ngombane. The Thulsie twins accused of plotting terror attacks on Jewish and American interests in SA for ISIS, abandoned bail applications this week but pressed for a trial date in three weeks in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.

As university campuses across the country continued to be battlegrounds for students fighting for free tertiary education this week, Jewish Report asked Jewish students and lecturers to weigh in on how #FeesMustFall has played out and what can be expected for the rest of the 2016 academic year.

Jewish Report also spoke to parliamentary representatives, including Jewish Democratic Alliance Member of Parliament Michael Bagraim, about the recent SABC and Hlaudi Motsoeneng debacle in the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee hearing and the ongoing SABC Board shenanigans.

ANOTHER ACCOLADE FOR CHIEF RABBI WARREN GOLDSTEIN

The influential Jerusalem Post has just published its pick of the “50 Most Influential Jews” during 5776 – and South Africa’s Chief Rabbi Warren Goldstein made the list. J-Post refers to Goldstein as “The Good Shabbos Rabbi”.

How influential is Rabbi Goldstein in the eyes of what is often called the most international Israeli newspaper? Very. He came in 21st, ahead of the likes of Natan Sharansky (24th) and President Reuven Rivlin (29th).
