Ambassador braais with SA Union of Jewish Students
Ahead of their departure for Israel to attend a Student Leadership Development Programme, the new 2017 SA Union of Jewish Students (SAUJS) national leadership were invited to meet with Israel’s Ambassador to South Africa Arthur Lenk, who with his family, entertained them at a braai on Sunday.

“It was really nice to be able to relax after our exams and in such a warm and friendly atmosphere,” the incoming SAUJS national chairman for 2017, medical student Gabriel Zollmann, told Jewish Report on Monday. Ambassador Lenk and his family had “really welcomed us into their home”, he said.
Ambassador Lenk, for his part, was full of praise for the future communal leaders and told Jewish Report that it had been “wonderful to have so many student leaders at my home”. He remarked that South Africa, through SAUJS, “has a tradition of building the next generation of Jewish leadership”.

SAUJS is a wonderful organisation, said Ambassador Lenk, and he thanked them for their work. The ambassador said it had been a good opportunity for the embassy and the students “to think, together, how Israel can reach out on campuses throughout the 2017 academic year”.
In Israel the students will also attend the World Union of Jewish Students (WUJS) conference. Apart from leadership training, the SAUJS executive will also be given intensive advocacy training.
As soon as they return to South Africa, the national executive will start preparing to run their recruiting tables at all campuses where they have branches on day one of the academic year.
