Bringing bags for new beginnings
The Union of Jewish Women Pretoria celebrated Mandela Day on July 26 with a visit to Kalafong Hospital. It took more than the required 67 minutes to deliver the 50 “baby bags for new beginnings” to the maternity ward where women were lying in labour in the passages and outside the nurses stations.

Chairman Sivea Stein was accompanied by vice chair Ciska Lewis and Tracy Myers who were welcomed with open arms at the maternity ward. More than 20 babies, including one set of twins, were born that morning and the excitement was tangible as the Union of Jewish Women contingent spent quality time chatting to the new mothers and one father.
In the words of the head sister: “You are really Women of Action to us.”
Thanks to the generosity of the Pretoria community, it is hoped that this worthwhile project can continue on a regular basis, spreading Mandela Day throughout the coming year.
