Cape Town Declaration is dead
Palestinian NGOs are said to be furious that despite their best efforts trade between SA & Israel is increasing rapidly. They seem to have backed the wrong horse by targeting the support of the powerful NEC of the ANC, whereas those in government refuse to act on the NEC’s promises. So, despite BDS policy being backed by the ANC, it isn’t the will of the SA or Palestine governments.

In “Are the ANC and Government Divided Over Israel?” (POLITCSWEB.co.za 4 March) SAJR Online editor Ant Katz wrote about what seemed to be an evolving ANC “family feud” between the idealistic party members and the party’s more pragmatic Members of Parliament on this issue.
Now, the Cape Town Declaration is dead in the water, says ACDP MP Cheryllyn Dudley. “This is huge,” she says, “it’s been a great victory for everyone who has been working for common sense to prevail.” The Cape Town Declaration will not be tabled before this or any other Parliament.
In an updated article, The Cape Town declaration: Dead in the water! published on the home page of Politicsweb on Saturday and featured in their weekly newsletter on Friday, Katz explains what went so wrong for the Palestinian lobby and killed off the Declaration last week. A full account will be published on SAJR.co.za tomorrow and in the print edition of Jewish Report this week.
