A Torah was donated to the Chassidim Shul on Sunday, 29 January, by the Crouse and Lilian families in honour of their beloved husband, father, and father-in-law, Dovi Crouse.

The families were presented with the opportunity to acquire the Torah in May 2022 from the now-closed Rosettenville Shul, but it was pasul (not kosher) and in need of repair. Still, they were in the year of saying kaddish for Crouse, and the prospect of repairing and dedicating a Torah in his name to the Chassidim Shul was one they couldn’t let pass.

The late Dovi Crouse, a well-known optometrist, was a hands-on perfectionist who always insisted on doing tasks 100%. In his own humble way, he enjoyed working on improving things, and often gave the items he had borrowed back to their owners in better shape than he received them.

In many ways, this Torah encompasses what Crouse stood for, and what the Chassidim Shul aims to achieve – to grow with fresh energy ensure community continuity for years to come.

The renewed and now majestic Torah was officially donated to the shul on Crouse’s first yahrzeit, surrounded by family and friends of the Crouse and Lilian families, members, and lay-leaders of the old Rosettenville Shul, and the broader Chabad community.
