Children’s author works her magic at Orange Grove Primary
OWN CORRESPONDENT
Grade 1 and 2 classes loved the message: “I am special” and “I can make a difference”, conveyed so descriptively and effectively in the book with the help of the butterfly, ladybird, ant, snail, and friends. This theme doesn’t only resonates with the young, but universally, stressing how essential it is that everyone be reminded that they are special in their own, inimitable way.
The school’s library is run by a team of volunteers who read books twice a week to about 650 foundation phase children (Grade R to Grade 3). At breaks, the library is filled with higher grade pupils who enjoy the privilege of borrowing two books weekly. It receives no monetary support from the school to stock its shelves, and thus relies heavily on donations.
Anyone wishing to contribute in any way to the library, please contact Marion Bloch 082 496 0267, or Gillian Jankelowitz 082 890 7691.
