David does Bernie in ‘SNL’ Democratic spoof
BEN SALES & ANT KATZ
Slap half a white toupee on his bald spot and Larry David becomes a dead ringer for Bernie Sanders, bouncy hand motions and all. He won laughs on “Saturday Night Live” (SNL) by playing Sanders straight.
But Larry David couldn’t resist throwing in a couple of Seinfeldisms, spewing outrage at the most insignificant of daily annoyances.
One of the classic lines: “Eh, not a fan of the banks,” Larry David (as Bernie Sanders) griped in answer to a question.
RIGHT: Larry David is almost indistinguishable from the ‘real’ Sanders – down to the facial expressions and arm gesticulations
“They trample on the middle class, they control Washington … and why do they chain all their pens to the desk? Who’s trying to steal a pen from a bank? Makes no sense!”
David/Bernie’s take on e-mail:
“I forgot my password the other day, so they say: ‘We’ll e-mail you a new one.’ But I can’t get into my e-mail to get the password! I mean, talk about a ball-buster!”
Although pundits are saying the real-life Sanders may not have won the real CNN-hosted debate last week, his “SNL”-alter-ego was “pretttay, pretttay good”. JTA
