The kashrut department of the Johannesburg Beth Din issued a Kosher Alert just before Shabbos regarding the popular “Tanqueray Gin” which, they say, will no longer be considered kosher.

The notice read as follows: “Please be aware, that we have received correspondence from the Federation of Synagogues in London (KF) – who used to certify ‘Tanqueray Gin’ – letting us know that this product is no longer certified and therefore is no longer an approved kosher product for consumption in South Africa.”

‘This is not a kashrus announcement it’s a financial announcement. Notice that they didn’t say it’s unkosher they just said it’s no longer certified, ie no longer being paid for the hechsher.

According to the Londin Beth Din, ANY Gin is kosher as long as it doesn’t contain grapes, which would have to be listed on the label. Same rules as for Scotch, ANY Scotch is kosher.’
