Over 80 young donors were treated to dinner and the opportunity to connect with each other. Afterwards everyone spilled into the GIBS classroom to hear David Frankel, South African-born entrepreneur and “South African Technology Achiever of the Century”, who is currently visiting South Africa from the US.
Frankel, a great supporter of the Chev, told his life story – from humble beginnings, to becoming a billionaire in the entrepreneurship and venture capital world. With companies like Internet Solutions, UBER and Founder Collective under his belt, he spoke about his mistakes, his learnings, his opportunities, his successes, failures, and everything in-between.
He attributed much of his success of the importance of good partnerships, investing in people, believing in his “gut-instinct”, having a strong work ethic, and creating disruption in the world of business.
A question and answer session followed, where audience members were able to ask him a range of questions. His answers, both factual and inspirational, certainly gave our donors something to think about as they left! We were all extremely fortunate to get a window seat into David Frankel’s mind and learn from his incredible wealth of knowledge and experience.
