At a ground-breaking ceremony held last week Thursday, Rabbi Avraham Tanzer, rosh yeshiva of the Yeshiva College campus said: “The mikveh is one of the sole things that we have in Judaism, which speaks only of the future; the concept of mikveh is about tomorrow, it is an investment in generations yet unborn.”
The ground-breaking ceremony therefore marked the beginning of the Glenhazel mikveh’s “transformation into a top-class modern facility that will once again serve the women of the community for generations to come,” he said.
The Glenhazel mikveh was the first in Johannesburg that was built outside of the Yeoville area.
“It has served the Glenhazel community for 30 years, and provided many women with the convenience and ability to keep the laws of family purity, a basic foundation of the building of a Jewish family,” the media release added.
