Invitation to join Israel at a unique event
Israel is building the first-ever official memorial to the fallen outside of the country – to be opened at the embassy compound in Pretoria. “We encourage all members of the Jewish community to attend this very significant event,” Deputy Ambassador Michael Freeman told Jewish Report today from Israel, where he is on leave..

The magnificent memorial is in honour of the 87 South Africans who emigrated to Israel and later fell, defending that country. Work on the memorial began this week.
The memorial will feature the names of each of the 87 and will be officially dedicated on Yom Hazikaron which falls on May 11.
Chief Rabbi Warren Goldstein, the heads of the SAJBD and the head of the SAZF will be attending, as well as other members of the Jewish community, says Freeman, and he encourages as many among the SA Jewish community as possible to join them at the event.
Further details regarding times and to reserve a place, click HERE or Dcm-sec@pretoria.mfa.gov.il which will open an e-mail window and send an e-mail with the subject line “YOM HAZIKARON” and provide your full name, ID number and a daytime or cell phone contact number.
