Israel in a changing M-East environment
The Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFA), under the auspices of their SA affiliate, The Israel Centre, will be hosting a guest speaker next week who is one of the finest military theorists in the Mid-East. Brig. Gen. (ret) Udi Dekel, pictured, will talk on: “Israel in a changing Middle East environment.”

Udi Dekel will speak in the Abe Abrahamson Auditorium at Beyachad on Tuesday 28 April from 19:00 to 20:30. Bookings close this Friday, 24 April.
Brig. Gen. (res.) Udi Dekel is the director of the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS), the leading think-tank in Israel.
Dekel was head of the negotiations unit with the Palestinians under the Olmert government. His last post in the IDF was head of the Strategic Planning Division in the Planning Directorate of the General Staff.
His prior posting saw his serving as head of the foreign relations section in the General Staff and head of the Research Division in Lahak, Israel Air Force Intelligence.
Dekel also served as head of the Israel-UN-Lebanon committee following the Second Lebanon War and head of military committees with Egypt and Jordan.
His areas of research include the following:
- Decision-making processes in Israel and the connection between policy and the military;
- The multidisciplinary integration in Israel of policy, diplomacy; the military;
- The peace process with the Palestinians;
- Strategic trends in the Middle East and challenges for Israel;
- The influence of the new media on the Arab world and Iran; and
- Security concepts; strategic military concepts; and strategic planning processes.
