Jewish doctors meet with Gauteng Health MEC
DAVID SAKS
The meeting was requested by Mahlangu in order for her to learn at first-hand what kind of challenges those at the coalface of public health services were experiencing and what could be done to address them.
In July 2009, a similar meeting was convened by the Board at her behest.
Some 20 Jewish doctors, representing a broad array of fields, including surgery, paediatrics and emergency services, shared their insights with the MEC and senior leadership in her department.
Participants spoke frankly about the kind of problems they were experiencing, but all showed a strong desire to work with local government in finding solutions and improving the system.
SAJBD National Director Wendy Kahn said she had been impressed by how constructive the engagement had been between the MEC and her team and the doctors. It was inspiring to see their mutual commitment to improving public health services and to working together towards achieving that goal.
