Join SAJR & ChaiFM & Jewish Report for great party!
ChaiFM are turning five, www.sajr-co.za are blogging live, Chabad House are lighting their first candle on their giant Chanukia and KosherWorld is putting on a fair to end all fairs – the first night of Chanukah promises to be the mother of all parties. And a unique collaboration for SA Jewish media. Read all about it…
ANT KATZ
The first night of Chanukah will see Glenhazel rock like it never has before – guaranteed! It is all coming together at 1 Long Avenue (KosherWorld) on Wednesday 27 November, and all means one heck of a lot! It is also an historical link-up of the SA Jewish media as broadcast, online and print come together at a single event!
Because it is erev Chanukah, the big bash will begin with the Chabad’s Rabbi Michael Katz lighting the first candle on the giant Chanukia – and the SAJR Online lighting its own FIRST CANDLE, live, on a giant screen. SAJR’s online editor Ant Katz will be live posting events, interviews and party pictures from the event for users who can’t be there.
Milestone to be proud of
The most festive of the events is the celebration of five years of uninterrupted broadcasting from 101.9 ChaiFM – and they have just been granted a license for another five years.
RIGHT: EVERYONE’S INVITED TO THE CHANUKAH BASH – BUT REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR PERSONAL CHAI INVITATION TO GET INTO THEIR SPECIAL TENT
Kathy Kaler, founder and CEO of the radio station, told Jewish Report that the station had grown to become part of the lives of Jews everywhere: “There have been many people along ChaiFM’s journey. Each has brought something unique,” said Kathy.
The line-up
The Chai-5 Birthday Bash will see a line-up of entertainment, including the Johnny Sklar Band and mentalist Ilan Smith, among others.
And all of the kosher establishments on the strip, will be part of the birthday party – including some special additional kosher food stalls that will be selling, among other wares, donuts and latkes in the parking lot.
Party guests will be able to sit down and enjoy a meal at Mi-Vami while listening to the night’s entertainment, says Kathy.

RIGHT – THERE IS SO MUCH HAPPENING ON WEDNESDAY THAT IF YOU CAN BE THERE, BE THERE!
Several hundred SAJR Online users followed the speech of the Israeli Ambassador last Monday night – either by checking back regularly or by keeping the page open and refreshing every few minutes. By using big screens, SAJR Online will give those at the party the opportunity to see how web content is generated and posted, while allowing those who can’t join the fun in person, to do so online.
So, with new pictures, interviews and reports being posted every few minutes, and the “twitterati” on board, it’s not a case of “be-there-or-be-square” on Wednesday night, folks, it’s more a case of be there in person or loin in the fun from home, anywhere in the world.
