Lay leaders paid their own way on trip to Israel
Sonny Meyerson wrote a letter in the Jewish Report of July 31, headlined “SA Jewish delegation to Israel, a gravy train trip”, wanting the SAJBD, the SAZF and the IUA/UCF “to explain to the Jewish community”, why it had been necessary for “all of them to go to Israel at the same time” and then he added: “This trip must have cost a fortune. Will the relevant organisations please tell us who went, why it was necessary for them to go and what this whole affair cost.”

We would like to place the following on record: This important mission was for the benefit of the entire South African Jewish community.
The lay leaders paid for their own flights, accommodation and all travelling expenses at their own cost and time. They should be saluted and praised for their unswerving dedication to this community.

‘Why would it matter who paid for the trip? Surely, being for the benefit of SA Jewish Community, even if the SAJBD or SAZF or UCF paid, it would be beneficial for the community as a whole.
\nWould it be better if no one paid and the trip did not take place? Then the 16 would not have seen for themselves the rubbish that spews out of the mouths of BDS supporters.
\nI cannot understand why anyone would deny a \”freebie\” to a fellow Jew who was working for the benefit of all Jews.
\nThere are enough Jews who hate Jews. Give it a break. ‘
