Let’s boycott these outlets to bring kosher prices down

So, if we as Jews can get together for an occasion like this, why can’t we get together and boycott the kosher chicken and meat outlets and get them to drop their prices as we are paying double in relation to the non-kosher equivalents.

Buy a whole chicken, six rolls and a 2 litre Coke for R69,99 non-kosher, while you would pay about R129 – if you are lucky – for the kosher equivalent.

I am sick and tired of hearing that shechita has to be paid for, and all the other excuses, while we are being robbed at these high kosher prices.

There are so many men from the yarmulke brigade running around these kosher outlets, doing what? Let them do the ritual slaughter!

Give us the choice of kashering our own meat and poultry at home.

SA Jewish Report of November 4 talks of a commission of inquiry into this matter. Believe me, nothing is going to happen. Two years ago, I wrote an article in Jewish Report, yet nothing has been done. I sent a letter to the Beth Din and the reply I got was: “Your query on the poultry prices have been noted”.

Also, we are buying defrosted meat and poultry off the shelf and then go home to freeze the meat again. Very healthy.

We can buy cheaper via Cape Town, so let’s go that route. I rest my case.

‘Although Mel has made a very valid point about extortionate prices, I found her letter rather humorous in content, because of the fact that I analogized her take on \”yarmulke men\” with cartoons of little men running around doing nothing.

Also, her letter to the Beth Din, wherein they \”noted \”her query on the prices is quite funny, because that is precisely the response one gets from government departments in SA ( if indeed one does get a reply).

Of course, Mel does have a valid point, though.’

‘One can buy kosher meat from Cape Town, have it delivered in Johannesburg, and pay far less than buying local. I do it and so do many many others. Even with delivery costs it comes much cheaper. I agree with Mel, enough excuses, because until they reveal where the money is going, that’s all it really is.’
