‘Let’s Build Arcadia Lego Challenge’ comes to Sydenham
SUE BENJAMIN AND TZIVIA GRAUMAN
Five big boxes of Lego Duplo were recently delivered to the Sydenham grade Rs and the children were encouraged to build houses for the “Arcadia Lego Challenge”.
They were divided into groups and very quickly and spontaneously the leaders took control. The children creatively named their constructions “Fun World”, “The Day of Joy”, “Rainbow World” and “Happy Arcadia House”, among others. The Chevrah Kadisha has been visiting various Jewish nursery schools, delivering boxes of Lego bricks to encourage children to enter the “Let’s Build Arcadia Challenge” that can win their schools amazing prizes.
The challenge (available online too) has captured the imaginations of schoolchildren throughout the community.
While the building costs of the new Arcadia (cnr Long and George Avenues) have been provided by Monty Koppel – a successful UK businessman who was himself an Arcadian child – interior decorating, furnishings, fittings and finishes are the Chev’s responsibility.
