Massive IDF hunt for 3 kidnapped Israeli teens
ROLENE MARKS
Regular SAJR correspondent Rolene Marks shares the anguish of Israelis on the ground
Bring Back our Boys!
Gilad Shaar (16) Naftali Frenkel (16) Eyal Yifrach (19), are just like every other Israeli teenager. They are concerned about school, play sports and have the same issues. Except that Gilad, Naftali and Eyal are not like every other Israeli teen.
While most students are trading World Cup soccer cards, thinking about what mischief they can get up to during the long summer break, Eyal, Gilad and Naftali have been kidnapped. They have been taken by terrorists to an unknown destination.
Once again Israelis feel the icy grip of worry and fear on our hearts as we are all too familiar with this scenario. It brings back painful memories of Nachshon Wachsman and the tragic outcome of his attempted rescue. Across solemn Shabbat tables in Israel this weekend, we kept Eyal, Gilad and Naphtali in our prayers and thoughts. Children are being hugged a little tighter, watched a little closer.
The IDF and security forces are conducting a massive manhunt.
Hamas and the Palestinian Authority formed a unity government in the hopes of ending internecine fighting. Hamas celebrated this deal by calling for continued “armed resistance and the kidnapping of Israeli civilians.” If anyone guessed for half a second that Israel would EVER have any kind of negotiating partner with this Unity Government, think again. After the arrest of several high ranking Hamas member, it is official. Hamas are responsible for the kidnapping of Eyal, Gilad and Naftali.
This is the same Hamas whose members Israel had to release from prison as part of yet another painful concession for peace. This is the same Hamas who have fired rockets, blew up cafes and buses, killed individuals, kidnapped soldiers and civilians and who have a charter that advocates the destruction of Israel.
This is the same Hamas who use their civilians as human shields, build tunnels to smuggle in weapons of destruction and who send their children to summer camps to feed them a continuous education of Jew hatred.
No doubt their kidnapping will be justified by anti-Zionists who will rationalize that because they lived or studied in disputed territory, they are fair game.
It remains to be seen how the international media will cover this event – one major network referred to them as “three men”.
Men? Two 16 year old boys, not legal to vote and a 19 year old?
Eyal. Gilad. Naftali. They are our children. Our collective heart aches for them and their families.
Eyal. Gilad. Naftali, please keep them in your thoughts and pray for their safe return.

‘The hypcrisy is staggering. wish the emotional outpouring would not racially differentiate between jews and non-jews. Palestinian parents equally feel the pain of their children in Israeli detention; children equally feel the pain of their parents in detention without trial; family are broken up. our humanity should be all encompassing and not racist. is that too much to ask?

Is it not the general consensus in S.Africa, and world-wide Jewry that ant-Israel, and anti-Semitism are synonomous?
\n
If true, and I’m sure the Jewish Report is part of this group, then Adam Levy is the ultimate anti-Semite, and consequently his anti-Israel/anti-Semitic outbursts should be banned, as per your guidelines.
\n
\n
\n
\n
Hi Choni – the COMMENT GUIDELINES certainly do not suggest that if someone is against Israel’s policies or is anti-Israel in any way, that they are anti-Semitic.
\nMany believe they are one and the same thing, other’s do not – so it is a good subject for debate and not one to ban! Ant Katz online.editor@sajr.co.za

‘Editor – please show me one instance where my posts have been anti-semitic. if anti-zionism stands for equal rights and benefits for all, a full democracy of all its citizens, a secular state then i fit the bill. all i am doing is inserting a jewish humanism into many of these racist and parochial postings. for that you should be thanking me.
\n
\n
EDITOR’S NOTE TO POSTER: We do not allow racism or hate-speech by anybody about anybody. It is against the law. This is a “parochial” medium produced by, and for, SA Jewry, expat-SA Jewry and Zionists of all religions. That is who we are and that is what we do. We certainly make no apology for being who and what we are.
\n
\nBut we also welcome all users and have a very clear code on how we deal with their comments. The same code applies to all. You are welcome to continue reading this website. That is your choice. You are also welcome to post anonymous comments should you so choose.

\n
But at the same time, as long as you deem it fit to throw your stones from behind the veil of anonymity with the pretence of using a common-sounding Jewish name – we believe it important that we continue to warn our users that you are not who you pretend to be. Neither we nor our users are able to contextualise what you write without this being the case..
