Pesach prices at Hyper through the roof

The price was R33,99 which I thought was rather high, but they are an imported item.

I happened to walk through the Hyper again on Thursday March 12 – one day later – to find that the same product had been reduced to R25,90 per tin.

I was told that this was a weekend special and I appreciate that. But, as Jews who buy kosher throughout the year and at Pesach, we are constantly faced with prices that increase almost on a daily basis.

If the Norwood Hypermarket can sell these cucumbers and other items that are on special at these prices, surely the way to encourage people to shop at the store would be for these products to come onto the shelves at a good price and that the price should hold for the duration of Pesach shopping.

I compared prices at other stores in the area and their prices compete with the Hyper’s discounted price.

Did Norwood Hypermarket discount these Pesach items because they genuinely were using them as loss leaders, or did they compare prices at KosherWorld and Spar and realise that they needed to be competitive?

And who knows what else we are being ripped off on.
