SA lauded by Knesset on Israel’s first Yom Aliyah
Last month Israel marked its first official Aliyah Day, celebrating immigration to the country and the contributions of immigrants to its society. Among observances of the day were celebrations in the Knesset, a programme at the president’s residence, as well as in schools, the army and the police force, as required by law.

Telfed – the SA Zionist Federation (Israel) – was invited to address a special session of the Knesset Committee on Aliyah, Absorption and Diaspora Affairs held at the Knesset sanctuary, in honour of the day.

These Olim Council members, said Kline, are key to successful aliyah promotion and absorption of immigrants from around the world.
Telfed’s impact on the absorption of 25 000 southern African olim since 1948 was held up as a shining example of this success.
Natan Sharansky, head of the Jewish Agency for Israel, who also attended the celebratory Knesset session, said: “I will not give up on a single Jew or a single immigrant.”
The Minister of Immigrant Absorption, Sofa Landver also participated.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu added: “Aliyah is the foundation of the state of the Jews and the fulfilment of the biblical prophecy of the Jewish people returning to its land and building it.”
