UJW brings holiday cheer to Durban patients

The Durban branch of the Union of Jewish Women (UJW) again brought cheer to clinic patients over the festive season. Tikkun olam is always at its best - and of most value to South African Jewry - when it is seen to be offered, as it should be, to the country's broader community.

The Durban branch once again spread cheer by handing out grocery vouchers to patients attending the Kathleen Voysey Clinic.

The clinic, housed at the Methodist Church Hall, is run entirely by volunteer staff, including doctors, nurses and pharmacists. It is a primary healthcare facility which provides HIV-, Aids- and TB-related treatment, care and support services for underprivileged adults.

Testing is also done for hypertension and diabetes and minor wounds are dressed there.

The UJW started this project a number of years ago by donating food packs, UJW National Chairman Lynne Raphaely told JR Online, "but decided a few years ago to rather donate supermarket vouchers so that the patients can choose what they’d like to purchase".

Once again the Durban women have done the community proud.
