School pupils treat the elderly

Other King David Schools’ pupils donated and packaged drinks, crisps and chocolates, which were collected and brought to SoSA.

SoSA volunteers and employees also worked with the Hirsch Lyons High School Grade 7 and 8 girls to complete the packaging process by filling the parcels with the baked hamantaschen.

All the gifts were then personally delivered by the pupils, their parents and volunteers to each recipient on the day of Purim.

This Purim Drive was initiated by Rabbi Shaun Wingrin, the director of the Senior Citizens Projects at SoSA, as many of these senior citizens do not have family members to visit them.

SoSA is a non-profit organisation offering friendship, activities and services to the aged. Since its inception six years ago, the initiative for each Chag has become bigger and better. Other schools have participated previously, making the senior citizens feel special.

SoSA also helped senior citizens to fulfil the mitzvah of hearing the Megillah and enjoy tea at the following locations in Johannesburg: The Holocaust & Genocide Centre in Forest Town, Linksfield Clinic, Silwood Lodge, Pembury Sandton and Pembury Melrose.
