Selwyn Segal residents did ‘Café Yuval’ proud
CELESTE EVERITT
This wonderfully first-ever Café Yuval evening was attended by close to 300 guests and initiated by Saul Jassinowsky, rosh Shevet Yuval SA – a division of Bnei Akiva that caters to adolescents and young adults with special needs. Hopefully it will be the first of many more.
Held on September 10 in the Yeshiva College hall, guests entered the “restaurant” and were seated at their tables and introduced to their waiters and waitresses. A helper was allocated to each waiter or waitress in case they were unsure of anything. Guests were encouraged to socialise with them and to get to know them better.
The Selwyn Segal residents served delicious beef or chicken burgers and drinks. All tips that were collected on the night went towards funding Shevet Yuval subsidies for camp.
The evening was about acceptance, patience, acknowledgement and friendship. It was a huge success with Selwyn Segal residents feeling empowered and important – as they should be!
