Soweto school supported with fun and generosity
A convoy of cars arrived at the JB Marks Primary School in Soweto on Sunday for an outreach project, organised by Lisette Datnow, the Chairperson of the Do Good and Have Fun branch (DGHF) of the Union of Jewish Women of South Africa.

Community volunteers and Hirsch Lyons Boys High School and Yeshiva College Boys High School scholars joined forces to paint the Grade R classrooms, partake in fun activities with Grade R students, and play soccer with the school soccer team.
The school welcomed the volunteers with choral singing and dancing, and shared a poem written by JB Marks school pupils.
During the visit, 1 600 much-needed spoons were handed over for the school’s feeding scheme, generous food parcels were made up, and numerous books were donated to the school’s library. The donations were made possible through community and Hirsch Lyons and Yeshiva school pupils’ contributions.
Other sponsors have made it possible for DGHF to facilitate the following upgrades: nine potholed classroom floors will be re-screeded; water fountains will be installed and plumbing repaired; a shade cloth carport for children waiting after school will be supplied and erected; desks and chairs will be delivered; a new jungle gym for the Grade R students is on its way; as well as more books for the school library. Datnow and all those who assisted her have helped to make some dreams come true.
