The “Goodtime lowdown rock and roll radio show” with the man who made radio in South Africa – Stan Katz, one of the great genius behind 702 and Primedia Broadcasting.

Showbiz, says Stan, is 10% show and 90% business and Stan has worked with some of the best, including John Berks and Rina Broomberg. As they would say – “Stan runs 702 and Rina runs Stan… She walked behind him cleaning up his debris.”

This comedic genius is the king of one-liners – “I went to university to major in drug abuse.” So join us as we “herd Katz” and hear the rollercoaster life story of unbridled excess and the innovative broadcasting talent that is Katz. Stan’s life was a jet set lifestyle of excess fuelled by drugs and rock and roll. It was the heady days of South Africa’s first independent radio station.

Issie Kirsh had spotted a gap, he could establish a radio station in the nominally independent Bantustan of Bophuthatswana and broadcast uncensored into South Africa. With Kirsh’s vision, Radio 702, originally founded as a music station would pioneer talk radio in South Africa and become the voice of aspirant freedom.
