UJW celebrates its 85th AGM
Daphne Miller, chairperson of the UJW Cape Town, thanked the organisation’s loyal staff, volunteers, executive committee, patrons, members and benefactors for their contributions, which had helped the UJW fulfil its goal of uplifting and assisting those in our community less fortunate than ourselves.
Miller paid tribute to Freda Davis, a long-standing member of the UJW executive committee, who passed away earlier this year and established the Freda Davis Award in her honour.
An honorary life membership was awarded to Nilly Baruch, while Hazel Hart received the Freda Kapalus award. Three Toni Saphra awards went to Ada Newman, Naomi Samols and Lili Watkins, respectively. The Sara Sloman award was given to Joy Fasser as well as to Elaine Sher.
Appreciation awards were given to Hilary Osrin and Gita Finkelstein. Service excellence awards were presented to Helene Rabinowitz, Karen Kallmann and Silvana Silverman.
Daphne spoke about the outstanding work that the union has accomplished this past year. She presented the final award, the Pearl Mandelstam Chairman’s award to the Simcha Group of the UJW in recognition of their outstanding dedication and hard work.
Daphne announced the executive committee for 2018/19. Patsy Fivelman is the new chairperson for 2018.
