‘For about 50 years we have been going to Umhlanga Rocks on holiday. When I went as a child, we always stayed at the hotel next door and looked up at the Beverley Hills with adoration, so near and yet so far! The huge pool that was like a dark hole at night, the staircase, all like fairyland and yet out of reach. As an adult, despite the luxury buildings around it now, we still look up at the Beverley Hills and with longing and wonder what it would be like to stay just a night there. So near and yet so far – as always!’

I met this amazing woman who despite the fact that I have five children and I am not a wealthy man, agreed to marry me, and moved from the USA to SA to help me raise my five children. She gave away everything she owned for the last thirty years, packed her luggage and had the amazing courage to follow me to SA where she knew no one. I have been a very happily married man but I never had the chance to show her South Africa or to propose to her properly, romantically in a beautiful place. I would love to win to show her what a princess she is in my heart, how much I love her and how much I appreciate how she adores me and adores all my children.

‘I would love to win this get away to say a very very big thank you to my loving husband who has over the past 7 weeks taken over my role as the \”mother\” to our children and done all the schlepping, shopping and looking after them and me, without complaining, while I am recovering from a shoulder op – that turned out to be more than we bargained for – together with me getting shingles. He has been there through my sleepless nights, pain and frustration, driving me where I need to be and still training for comrades. I think the 2 nights away will be good for both of us to just re-connect’

‘Ahhhh…The Beverly Hills Hotel…. It’s been two beautiful decades since I met my wonderful Husband at the most beautiful memorable hotel in Africa. I remember him walking me up to my room and expected a kiss after knowing him for 2 hours! I kissed him on the cheek and he to ld me that his Boba kisses better than that so I told him to go and kiss his boba then and closed the door! Feeling rather deflated with a bruised ego, he went back to his room, called up his mom at 2am and told her that he had found the girl he was going to marry! That crazy boy was at my door at 8am the next morning with his lips puckered! Needless to say we are very happily married with a beautiful son. Thank you Beverly Hills for being part of our History… We love you! ❤️ ‘

It would be a fabulous prize to win and unwind.
My wife says that the place should be called \” Heavenly Bills . \”

To THE BEVERLEY HILLS on her fiftieth birthday. ( With apologies to Elizabeth Barrett Browning)
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways
I love thee to the length and breadth of thy sparkling, enticing pool
I love thee as I plunge into thy depths and feel the stress abate
I love thee as the place where every day
I can enjoy the sun and dine by candle light
I love thee as a place to rest, relax, restore my shattered soul
But woe is me! Alas, I cannot afford thee
With my meagre stipend of one poor English teacher
Therefore, I beseech thee, bestow your love upon me
And grant to me this wondrous prize of thine
If thou wilt do thus
I will forever love thee more and more…

‘AAAAH! “Beverly Hills, Umhlanga” What a pleasant trip down memory lane this name brings. I well remember its first opening; it was a national event. The glamorous Hollywood star Diana Dors was there to grace the occasion. And then there was the exotic Brazilian theme: The Copacabana Night Club; The Kiki Bar…. It was the place to be seen then and I perceive that it is once again the place to be seen now. It put Umhlanga Rocks on the map for all discerning travellers and holidaymakers. ‘If I had to win the trip to the Beverley Hills Hotel, I would give the prize to my parents! The reason is a debt of gratitude to them, on behalf of the South African Jewish community, for their untiring efforts that they have given to South Africa Jewry over the last 50 YEARS!! They were the pioneers of the establishment of the Glenhazel area in the 1960’s in building the Yeshiva shul, Yeshiva College school and Mizrachi. They were also integrally involved in the South African Zionist Federation and SA Board of Deputies during the apartheid era. They devoted 50 years of their lives for the benefit of the South African Jewish Community. As it is also the 50th anniversary of the Beverly Hills Hotel, it is fitting for them to share in this milestone occasion at the hotel…. ‘
