As per tradition, SAUJS held their annual Yom Ha’atzmaut celebration last week. This year’s event, to celebrate Israel’s 66th Birthday took place last Tuesday on Wits campus lawns during lunch hour.
The event aims at bringing the Jewish Students on campus together to celebrate Israel’s birthday, enjoy Israeli music and typical Israeli foods such as falafel, pita and humus. STORY CONTINUES BELOW PICTURE
There were, however, “some students who did not appreciate the event and stood around the lawns holding signs boycotting Israel. These students, who were not allowed to be there were asked by the university to disperse and will be dealt with by the university.
“Indeed, the atmosphere on the Wits lawns was not hindered by the interruptions and all the students had a great time including those who aren’t even SAUJS members,” said Cayla.
